Our process

The Dynasty collection is a celebration of art and craftsmanship, where every step is approached with care and intention. Each piece reflects a balance of artistry and precision, guided by a thoughtful process that honours both tradition and modernity.

1. Design

The journey begins in the studio with Georgina Yen Qin Lee, where ideas take shape through hands-on exploration. Initial forms are hand-thrown and sculpted to refine proportions, rim details, and patterns, allowing the design to evolve organically. These physical studies are then translated into detailed sketches and, eventually, into precise 3D models. This process captures the essence of the design while setting the foundation for its transformation into porcelain.

2. Moulding

From the 3D model, a master form is carved into plaster using CNC-routing technology. Each master piece is then meticulously hand-finished to enhance intricate details in the rims and pattern engravings—a delicate process requiring exceptional skill and often taking 1-2 days per plate. This master form becomes the basis for the mother mould, from which production moulds are carefully crafted, ensuring the integrity of the original design.

3. Casting

The complexity of Dynasty’s designs calls for exceptional skill and care. At Luzerne’s workshop, only the most experienced craftsperson handles the pressure slip-casting and demoulding process. With a practiced hand, each piece is skillfully cast, demoulded and carefully sponged, smoothing edges and surfaces in preparation for the next stage. This level of care ensures that every piece carries the design's intricacy forward.

4. Bisque Firing

The pieces are then bisque-fired at 900°C, transforming the raw clay into a durable form. This crucial step strengthens the pieces, making them ready for glazing while preserving the fine details of the design.

5. Glazing

Glazing is a measured and skilled process, done entirely by hand. As a plate's design becomes more complex, there is a much higher occurrence of glaze flaws, such as glaze crawling. Achieving an even glaze across every surface, especially within detailed engravings, requires patience and expertise, involving additional steps to prevent flaws during the firing process.

6. Firing

The glazed pieces are fired at 1300°C, where the porcelain vitrifies, the glaze fuses seamlessly with the body, and the material gains remarkable strength. This high-temperature firing results in pieces with near-zero porosity, ensuring food safety, durability, and a flawless finish.

7. Final Touches

Once cooled, each piece is inspected to ensure it meets Dynasty’s exacting standards. From there, the plates are individually placed into eco-friendly, recyclable boxes designed to protect and present each piece beautifully. Thoughtfully crafted with sustainability in mind, these boxes reflect the same care and consideration that goes into the collection itself. No plastics are used in any of Dynasty’s packaging, aligning with our commitment to mindful design.

Each Dynasty piece is more than tableware—it is a thoughtfully crafted object, the result of many hands and countless hours of dedication. Designed to elevate the everyday, it brings together art, craftsmanship and cultural narrative in every detail.
